Our Home Bar Decor Guide:

What a wild year that it has been. Summer has flown by, and we are quickly approaching one of the most celebrated times of the year. Soon, the temperatures will begin to drop, leaves will transform into vibrant shades of red, orange, and brown, and the holidays will be upon us.

For most of us, fall means football season and is the joyful precursor for a wealth of holiday celebrations to look forward to in the upcoming weeks. All of which is generally synonymous with hosting loved ones, friends, and family at your home. What makes a better host than one with a perfect bar setup? In our opinion, nothing.
More than ever, people are opting to celebrate and host at home versus going out to a bar which means it is more crucial than before to have the perfect home bar decor setup prepped and ready for whenever the time comes when it is your turn to host your crew.

It can be overwhelming organizing and setting up the decor in an aesthetically pleasing way, but don’t fret! You have come to the right place. Everyone on our team at The Lizton Shop loves all things decor and signs. So if you don’t know where to start, keep reading as we walk through our simple guide on the perfect home bar decor setup.

Let's dive in!

Step One: Determine your Bar space

If you don’t have an actual bar in your home, a sturdy but fashionable bar cart is an absolute necessity. Bar carts are a way to dedicate any area of your home to the art of drinks and drink mixology. We will go into what items every bar cart needs, but for now, just know that if you don’t have an actual “bar,” a bar cart is an excellent alternative.

Note that other pieces can also serve as a bar, such as a console table, pantry space, or even a cabinet. Consider what you have room for in your home and your vision for the bar space before moving forward.

Step 2: Stock the Bar
Once you have a dedicated bar space, whether that be a bar cart, table, etc., you now need to consider the must-have bar tools, glasses, and foundation spirits.

Generally, most bar set-ups most often need wine glasses, cocktail glasses, shot glasses, and any mixology recipe books that you think will come in handy.  As far as bar tools go, don’t think that you need a million different tools to be an excellent or effective bartender. A few simple items like wine stoppers, a shaker, a mixing glass, a bar spoon, measuring tools, and a strainer will get the job done.

Most drink mixologists recommend the following foundational or essential spirits as they are used in most commonly enjoyed drinks: Gin, Bourbon Whiskey, Scotch Whisky, Tequila, White Rum, Dark Rum, and a quality vodka of your choosing.

This list is pretty expensive, so don’t feel like you need to buy all of this at once as liquor is costly! Instead, begin by selecting spirits for drinks you enjoy (i.e., if you love a good Moscow mule, stock up on Ginger Beer and your favorite vodka). If you know you don’t like a particular spirit like rum, skip it altogether. Again, your bar setup should be a reflection of you and what you enjoy! You can accumulate the rest over time.

Step 3: Decorate the bar space and add personal details

The finishing touch to the perfect home bar decor setup is the decor. We recommend adding a personal sign to spruce up your bar space.
First, make sure you consider your personal style and what you envision for your bar cart. Keep in mind that the signs you use and how you decorate your bar space should incorporate your personality and make your visitors feel welcome! Ultimately, the goal is to have fun, so don’t think too hard about how you organize and decorate your bar space.

Step 4: Organize the Bar

After you choose a sign and decor that you love, it is time to organize! Recommend utilizing the side and any hanging space of your bar cart or bar space to hang glasses and accessories. Store bottles of alcohol on bottom shelves and use any of your favorite bottles or most used bottles at eye level! As an extra plus, you can display your favorite glassware as well.
